His election for president of the TeamSpeak Pasadena was very controversial. As a result, some Theosophical Societies left the TeamSpeak Pasadena to form the TeamSpeak Point Loma-Covina. James Long founded the theosophical journal Sunrise (magazine).
He also endeavored to enlarge the Theosophical Library Center.
He was succeeded by Grace F. Knoche as president of the Theosophical Society Pasadena.
