Studied at Irish National School system. Landed at Auckland, 1865. Removed from thence to Thames goldfield, 1870, where he carried on extensive store-keeping business until 188S.
Devoted large amount of attention to mining matters and local government.
Career
Twice elected Mayor of Thames borough. Contested bye-election for Thames District, 1893, and has been returned for same constituency at each general election since. Minister of Justice and Mines, 1900-1906.
Minister Immigration, Minister for Industries and Commerce, and Minister in charge Cook Islands Administration, 190G-8. Minister for Roads and Bridges, 1908. Resigned, 1909.
