Career

Born in Mount Kisco, New York, McCarthy was ordained to the priesthood on June 1, 1968 for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New New York On May 22, 1999, he was appointed titular bishop of "Verrona" and auxiliary bishop of the New York Archdiocese and was consecrated a bishop on June 29, 1999. On June 15, 2002, he resigned due to a sex scandal.
