Formerly a Member of Provincial Parliament of Otago, New Zealand, and subsequently of New Zealand Parliament as Member for Port Chalmers. Was one of the Representatives of New Zealand at the Imperial Navigation Conference, London, 1907. Chairman and Managing Director of Union Steamship Company of New Zealand.
