(The name of Christ is widely known, yet the figure of Chr...)
The name of Christ is widely known, yet the figure of Christ is all too often unexplored, even by Christians. In Search of Christ seeks to remedy this defect by offering the reader the possibility of growing to know Jesus through his own thoughts, words, and deeds in the gospel. So, whether it is merely a human or historic interest in this 'man for others', or whether users want to nourish their faith, the volume offers the possibility of achieving these goals. It does so by means of reflection and prayer round the good news of Jesus. Of necessity, the process invites and evokes considerable participation from the users, accompanying them in an exciting search.

(Provides insights and suggestions on the vision and pract...)
Provides insights and suggestions on the vision and practicalities of small Christian communities, or basic ecclesial communities. These communities are neither mere pastoral strategies nor part of a helping movement in the church; they are church. Furthermore they are emerging as one of the most significant ways in which the Spirit is implementing the communitarian vision of church proposed by Vatican II. An improvement on earlier books, this benefits from years of experience in many parts of the world: much of the writing is new, the spirituality more developed, and the theological, spiritual and practical elements better integrated. The author has enlisted enormously experienced and knowledgeable people to write about the communities on their own continents. The profiles update the situation to the turn of the millennium and are as complete as any available. Clear about the elements of a viable ecclesial vision for the 21st century.""--National Catholic Reporter. ""One of the best introductions to small Christian communities.""--The Tablet. ""This book is a must for anyone involved with small Christian communities. The Trinitarian vision is stupendous.""-INK. James O'Halloran is a Salesian priest who has worked with small Christian communities for over thirty years.

(Using an approach that involves great participation, this...)
Using an approach that involves great participation, this book admirably achieves its purpose. Not only does it impart adequate essential information on the communities, but also communicates the skills involved in their running. Although the work deals specifically with small Christian communities, it can enrich and open new horizons for groups of all kinds, not least those of youth. In addition, it sets the small communities in the context of the wider church. James O'Halloran is a Salesian who, following long years serving in schools, has worked with small Christian communities and groups on all continents for well nigh forty years as member, coordinator and promoter. This task he has carried out from the halls of academe to parishes and far-flung mission statements. His book Small Christian Communities, Vision and Practicalities is regarded as a seminal work on the subject.

(Set against the background of the cruel civil war that wr...)
Set against the background of the cruel civil war that wracked Mozambique in the 1980s, the arrival of a fleeing, traumatized and wounded Dorlinda Matunse into the Machava family compound in Mozambique is a defining moment in all their lives. This is the gripping story of how they strive to escape Mozambique and cross the vast Kruger Park to make contact with people of their tribe in South Africa. It is a harrowing tale, though not related without humor, of a group in danger from hostile troops, marauding wild beasts and the forces of nature. Pathos, humor, cultural sensitivity, and unforgettable images are all features of this excellent and delicately understated novel. James O'Halloran is a Salesian priest who has spent over thirty years working abroad

(In 2007 the town of Callan, Co Kilkenny, celebrated its 8...)
In 2007 the town of Callan, Co Kilkenny, celebrated its 8th centenary. As part of that commemoration, Fr James O'Halloran SDB, a native of the town, was asked to give an address entitled 'The Church and World of the Future'. This speech addressed the countless people from the town who were compelled to take the emigrant ship, or plane, in search of a new life or dream. They, or their descendants, are now scattered throughout the globe. Several of them have had a considerable impact on the lands of their exile. O'Halloran says that the historical travails and triumphs of Callan were - and still are - mirrored elsewhere on the planet: 'The small town is the world, the world the small town', he says.

The book does exactly what it says in the sub-title. The author is regarded as one of the foremost authorities on the subject having fostered small communities and groups on every continent as member, coordinator and promoter for the past forty years. This work took him to the halls of academia, towns, cities, villages and remote mission stations worldwide. The result is that his take on the subject is unique and of huge interest not only to ordinary people but to students and academics as well. It is the author's final contribution on the subject. Our present dire economic crisis has led to a revival of interest in community.
