James Souttar Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects was a Scottish architect.
Background
The son of William Souttar, of Edenville, Aberdeen, Souttar worked in Gothenburg (1863) and Stockholm (1863-1866), in Sweden, and his works there include The English Church at Wallingatan in Stockholm, 1865-1866, later moved to Diplomatstaden.
Career
Records say the building was erected in 1865, whilst the circular stained glass windows which are still intact say 1869. The building in 2001 was in a deteriorating, derelict state when Aberdeen bar and nightclub operators, The Epic Group bought the building. lieutenant is now a nightclub called "The Priory."
In 1898, Souttar became the founding president of The Aberdeen Society of Architects.
