Mr. Ware received an early architectural training in the office of R. G. Hatfield. About 1875 he set up practice for himself and carried on work alone until 1900 when he took his two sons (Franklin B. and Arthur) into partnership under the firm name of James E. Ware & Sons.
Among his early works (designed independently) were two large Storage Warehouse buildings on Lexington Avenue, the 12th Regiment Armory; Columbus Avenue at 61st; Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church at 73rd Street (c. 1900); Halcyon Hall, Millbrook, N. Y. (1892), also many resi¬dences, apartments, and a block of "Model Tenements" on 64th and 65th Streets.
