Career
Amateur boxing; Amateur Boxing Association (ABA) lightweight. Professional October 1968. Beaten in British lightweight championship fight v.
Willie Reilly February 1972. Won title, beating Tony Riley after Willie Reilly relinquished it May 1972. Lost title to Ken Buchanan January 1973.
Won vacant title v. Johnny Cheshire January 1975. Won Lonsdale Belt outright by retaining British title v. Johnny Claydon February 1977.
Beaten by Jonathan Dele for vacant Commonwealth lightweight title May 1975. Won vacant European title, beating Andre Holyk in first round August 1977. Relinquished British title July 1977.
Retained European title twice in 1978. Won vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) version of world lightweight championship April 1979, beating Alfredo Pitalua. Defended it v. Roberto Vasquez November 1979, Charlie Nash March 1980, Howard Davis June 1980 and Sean O'Grady November 1980.
