General by Continental Congress, 1777. General Pennsylvania Militia, 1783. General under General Wayne, 1792.

Chief witness against Aaron Burr at his trial for conspiracy with Spain, narrowly escaped indictment by grand jury, acquitted, stood 2d ct. Major general, 1813.
