First engagement was with the Royal Bank of Scotland, for about 3 years. Later with Bank of British North. America, with assignments to Montreal, New York and Halifax. Later paying teller, afterward inspector of agencies, Bank of Nova Scoti.
Established agency in Minneapolis, of which was manager for 3 years.
About 1888 became cashier and manager of the Northwestern National Bank. Vice president First National Bank, Chicago, 1892, and succeeded Lyman J. Gage as president, 1900.
Chairman of the Board January 1, since 1916.
Married Mary Ellen Murray, of Halifax, Nova Scoti, October 19, 1875.
