After graduating at Edinburgh was awarded successively the Baxter Scholarship, the Ferguson Scholarship, the Hamilton Fellowship, and the Shaw Fellowship in Philosophy. Was assistant to late Professor Ritchie, Saint Andrews, and Lecturer on Philosophy at Dundee University College.
