Colby, James D. was born on April 22, 1950 in Erie, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of Robert Dale and Agnes Lois Colby.

Career

Aquatics director Byron-Bergen (New York ) Central School, 1973—1978. Principal, owner Colby Photographics, Jamestown, 1980—1986. Associate professor, curator Jamestown Community College, Olean, 1983—1996, director exhibitions and galleries, since 1996.

Artist-in-residence New York State Council on the Arts, Jamestown, 1990, member visual arts panel. Founder, director Museum Without Walls and the Global Collection of Photography Weeks Gallery, Jamestown Community College.
