Fechet, James Edmond was born on August 21, 1877 in Fort Ringgold, Texas, United States. Son of Edmond Gustav and Rachel Morrow (Forsythe) Fechet.


Bachelor of Arts, University of Nebraska, 1899. Graduate Infantry and Cavalry School, 1904. Honorary Doctor Aeronautical School, Pennsylvania Military College, 1929.


Enlisted as non-commissioned officer cavalry, United States Army, 1898. Commissioned Lieutenant, July 25, 1900. Promoted through grades to brigadier general A.S., April 26, 1925.

Identified with A.S. since 1917. Commanding officer Kelly Field, San Antonio, Texas, 1918-1920. Chief of Training and War Plans Division, Office Chief of A.S., 1920-1924.

Commanding officer United States Training Fields and 3d Attack Group, Kelly Field, 1924-1925. Assistant chief of Air Service, 1925-1927. Appointed chief of Air Corps, with rank of major general, December 14, 1927.

Retired December 1931. Recalled to active duty March 15, 1942. Re-retired, December 31, 1946.
