James Francis Minturn

Education

Educated Martha Institute, Columbia University, and under tutelage of Professor Louis Barton. Bachelor of Laws, Columbia, 1880. Doctor of Laws, Seton Hall College, 1908.

Career

Corporation attorney, Hoboken, 1884-1904. Member New Jersey Senate, 1904-1907. Judge Circuit Court, 1907-1908.

Justice Supreme Court of New Jersey, 1908-1929, retired.

Now dean John Marshall College of Law, Jersey City, New Jersey. Also advisory master in chancery.

While practicing was attorney in many important cases, notably the Hutchins’ Will Case, involving bequest of large amount of money for circulation of works of Henry George. Judge-advocate old 2d Regiment, North.G.N.J., 1884-1891.

One of organizers of Free Public Library, Hoboken, State Charities Aid Association, Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
