James Franklin BETHUNE - BAKER

Background

BETHUNE - BAKER, James Franklin was born on August 23, 1861. Son of late Alfred Baker, Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, of Birmingham, and Emmeline Bethune, daughter of George Armitage. Assumed the additional name Bethune 1884.

Education

Studied at King Edward’s School, Birmingham. Pembroke College, Cambridge. 1st class Classical Tripos, 18S4, and Theological Tripos, Part II., 18S6.

George Williams Prize, 1886. Burney Prize, 1887; Norrisian Prize, 1888. B. D. 1901.; Bachelor of Divinity.

Career

Headmaster’s Assistant King Edward’s School, Birmingham, and Curate St. George’s, Edgbaston, 1888-1890. Dean of Pembroke College, 1891-1906. Fellow of Pembroke College, Cambridge, since 1891; Editor of the Journal of Theological Studies since 1903; Examining Chaplain to the Bishop of Rochester, 1905.
