Excerpt from On Common Neuroses: Or the Neurotic Element in Disease and Its Rational Treatment This edition has been reprinted very nearly in its original form. I have been urged to expand it by adding cases and other additional matter; but to do this would, in my opinion, be to detract from any value that the book may possess. It aims only at a statement of the principles of management of the many ailments which may be comprehended within the limits of common neuroses. More detail, while all too ready to hand, would be both a burden to the attention and an affront to the intelligence of those who may become my readers.
