Appointed Judge Criminal Court of McDowell County, West Virginia, January 1, 1905, to fill vacancy caused by resignation of Judge L. L. Chambers, and elected three times, serving until 1924. Member 69th and 70th Congresses (1925-1929), 5th West Virginia District.
