Studied law at University of Virginia, 1894.
French. Settled at Welch, West Virginia, 1895, and began law practice with father. Appointed Judge Criminal Court of McDowell County, West Virginia, January 1, 1905, to fill vacancy caused by resignation of Judge L. L. Chambers, and elected three times, serving until 1924. Member 69th and 70th Congresses (1925-1929), 5th West Virginia District.
Vice president McDowell County National Bank, Mohawk Coal & Coke Company. Secretary and treasurer Mohawk Land Company.
