James Hamilton Davidson, American lawyer. Member G.A.R., Loyal Legion.


Davidson, James Hamilton was born on January 25, 1839 in Burlington, Ohio, United States. Son of James and Mary Frances (Combs) Davidson.


Bachelor of Arts, Ohio Wesleyan, 1861, A.M., 1864.


Enlisted private Company B, 14th Kentucky Infantry, 1861. Promoted First lieutenant and captain. Promoted major 49th Kentucky Infantry, 1863.

Colonel 122d United States C.T., 1864. Honorary discharged, 1866. Lieutenant United States of America, 1866.

Declined. In fall of 1864 was president military board to examine all applicants for commissions in United States.C.T. at Lexington, Kentucky, and was assistant superintendent of organization of colored troops in Kentucky Removed to St. Paul, 1866. City editor Daily Press (now Pioneer Press) until 1870. Admitted to bar, 1867.

General counsel N. Western Union Packet Company, 1870, and later Keokuk Northern Line Packet Company and other corporations until 1885. Practiced law, Chicago, 1895-1906. Returned to St. Paul, 1906.

Platform lecturer, debater, camp-fire talker. Chairman Minnesota State Waterways Commission, 1910-1911.


Church should be involved into political life by organizing delegations to party conferences.


The strong feature of Methodism is that prayers are not only led by an ordained minister, but often by a local preacher - a lay person who has been trained and authorized to lead worship and preach.
