Member 64th Congress (1915-1917), Texas at-large. National organizer Populist Party, 1891-1900. Returned to Democratic party, 1900.
Campaigned in 9 states for Woodrow Wilson, 1912.
Member.1st national committee that proposed an income tax, and demanded election of the United States senators by direct vote of the people, and the initiative, referendum and recall. Widely known as temperance speaker. Member of advisory committee National Abstainers’ Union.
Member Church of Christ. Gained title of “Cyclone” in discussion with General Watt Hardin, of Kentucky, 1892.
