Blake, James Hubert was born on February 7, 1883 in Baltimore. Son of John Sumner and Emma (Johnstone) Blake.

Began professional piano career, 1901. Became partner vaudeville team Sissle and Blake, 1915. Founder, Eubie Blake Music, (recording company), 1972.

Collaborator: Broadway shows Shuffle Along, 1921, Blackbirds, 1930, Bubbling Brown Sugar, Eubie, 1979. Mus. conductor Broadway shows, United Service Organizations Hospital Unit, 1941-1946. Now active public appearances, recording.

Appearances jazz festivals, Europe, mus. autobiography French television. Composer: songs including Baby Mine.
