Few issues have made such an impact on the public imagination recently as that of the environment. Concern about the environment embraces many issues - from pesticides to toxic waste, from the greenhouse effect to the motor car - but for most of us it is difficult to decide, amidst all the claims and counter claims, which are the most important. We feel emotionally caught up in the race to save the planet but do not know where our priorities should lie. Environment 2000 surveys the key environmental issues and explains in a way that is easy to understand what the problems are and what is being done (or can be done) to put matters right. Some of the book's conclusions are controversial, particularly because James Wilkinson finds the nuclear industry less of a threat to the future of the planet than many environmental organizations like to claim.
