Removed to Richmond, 1864. Educated in schools of General Robert Ransom, John P. McGuire, Pampatike Academy, Colonel Gordon McCabe, Richmond College.

Career

With Merchants’ National Bank, Richmond, 1881-1885. In stock raising and other business until 1890, when returned to Merchants’ National Bank, becoming its special correspondent and chief of collection department. Member Richmond City Council, 1895.

Appointed, 1895, national bank examiner for Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Secretary American Bankers’ Association, 1895-1908. Trust company section, 1900-1908, Currency Commission, 1906-1907.

President Branchland Coal corporation since 1906. President Guyandotte Coal Company, Guyan River Coal Company.
