Graduate Linsly Institute, Wheeling, 1896. Student Washington and Jefferson College, 1897-1899, honorary Doctor of Science, 1938. Graduated from the United States Military Academy, 1903.


Commissioned Second lieutenant Cavalry, United States of America, 1903. First lieutenant, 1911. Resigned October 1913.
