Career
Began preaching views of Alexander Campbell, lead to division in his congregation, formed church, Charlottesville, Virginia, 1836. Minister Disciples of Christ, made preaching tours, established churches Participated in publication of Christian Publisher (1st periodical published by Disciples of Christ), 1836-1840, sole editor and publisher, 1843-1845, changed name to Christian Intelligencer.
Established school for girls, Gordonsville, Virginia, 1851, moved to Albemarle County, 1856, renamed Piedmont Female Academy, conducted school, until 1867.
Took charge of Southern Kentucky Female Institute, Hopkinsville, 1867-1869.
