High school and academic education. Studied law in office of William Starke, Manchester, N.H., 1857-1859.

Paym. clerk United States Navy, 1861-1865, at Naval Station, Key West, Florida, at close of Civil War. Remained and entered practice of law, 1865-1868. Judge Monroe Company, Florida, 1868-1870.

Member Florida Senate, 1870-1872. United States district judge, Southern District of Florida, February 1, 1872, resigned, July 4, 1912.
