Kern graduated from Washington State University.
She was also a television news reporter for several years and prior to that, a contestant on the first season of Big Brother. She credited that experience to first learning about body makeup. Also in 2000, she appeared on the Reality television show Big Brother.
She was the last female houseguest left on that show (three men remained after she left).
Kern graduated with an Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School in 2004 and worked as a field reporter for KNDU until 2006 when she then moved to Portland, Oregon where she worked for KPTV. She launched the line in the United States in 2008, expanded into Canada in 2009, and the line is now available in more than 200 beauty boutiques in the United States as well as being featured on Quality, Value, Convenience. Kern has recently made appearances on the TODAY Show, Rachael Ray, Extra!, and East! News along with many others representing her beauty line. Kern has also lived in and visited several countries including Thailand, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, Italy, France, Japan and Cambodia.
She also did live reports from the Vatican City for KNDU in Kennewick on Pope John Paul II"s death.
She is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of lieutenant Cosmetics. She had also competed in the Mission United States of America pageant and won the Baywatch College Search in 1999, where she appeared on an episode of the television show. After winning the title Mission Washington United States of America in late 1999, Kern went on to compete in the Mission United States of America 2000 pageant held in Branson, Missouri. The pageant was won by Lynnette Cole of Tennessee. She remains in contact with the Washington pageant system and hosted the Mission Washington United States of America 2006 pageant won by Tiffany Doorn of Woodinville. Kern is the co-founder and current Chief Executive Officer of lieutenant Cosmetics - a prestige color cosmetics line for face and body. She also won the Redbook Magazine Most Valuable Player (Most Valuable Product) award for 2008 for her Legal Sculpting Kit, by the name of: Smokin" Hot Legs.
lieutenant Cosmetics has quickly gained a large number of celebrity fans. Including many cast members of the hit television show Dancing With The Stars, who use both the face and body products.
