Career
He is currently playing for the Michigan Technical Huskies in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (National Collegiate Athletic Association). He was selected by the Winnipeg Jets in the 7th round (190th overall) of the 2012 National Hockey League Entry Draft. As a youngster, Phillips played as a forward until age 12, when he decided to switch positions, as he was drawn to the goaltending position.
During the 2014-2015 season, Phillips was nominated for the Hobey Baker award, given to college hockey’s most outstanding player in the United States.
Playing for Michigan Technical, Phillips amassed a 28–9–2 record, with a 1.74 goals against average, and 0.933 save percentage. Phillips helped lead Michigan Technical to the National Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament, where they lost to Saint Cloud State in the regional semi-finals.
Phillips returned to Michigan Technical in 2015-2016 for his final college season.
