Jane Ransom was born on June 28, 1958, in Boulder, Colorado, United States.
In 1976, Jane entered Indiana University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism in 1980. Later, in 1984, she enrolled at New York University and received a Master of Arts degree in English (Creative Writing) in 1986. Some time later, in 1988, Ransom entered the same univesity and attained her Master of Arts degree in Comparative Studies in 1991.
Also, between 2008-2009, Jane attended Hypnosis Motivation Institute, where she received her Diploma in Hypnotherapy.
In 1977, Jane served as an intern at Frankfort Times, and the following year, in 1978, she held the same position at Chicago Sun Times newspaper. In 1980, Ransom was appointed a reporter at the Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper in Cincinnati, a post she held till 1981, when she was appointed a copy editor at Fort Collins Coloradoan newspaper.
Between 1981-1984, Ransom held a post of an assistant editor at the San Juan Star Newspaper. In 1984, she began working as a national/international news editor at New York Daily News newspaper, a position she held till 1989.
In 1991, Ransom worked as an adjunct professor at New York University in New York City. Since 1992, she has been working as a freelance writer.
Between 1997-2002, Jane was a professor of creative writing at Rutgers University and New York University. In 2004, she was a distinguished poet in residence at Saint Mary’s College of California.
Moreover, during her career, Jane served as a guest lecturer on creative writing at different universities, including Columbia University, and at high schools.
Ransom lived in different cities during her life, including Madrid, Paris, Boston, New York City and San Francisco. Currently, besides being a writer, she acts as a hypnotherapist, success coach and public speaker.
