Bachelor in England Literature & Creative Writing, Agnes Scott College, 1983;
postgraduate, Georgia State University, 1983-1984.
Ms Zanca attended college while raising her family. In 1981 her hope to be a writer and editor was given a huge boost by a full scholarship for the Return to College Program at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia. Her first job after graduation in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and English Literature was a position as researcher, Goodlife Magazine, Atlanta, GA 1985-1986. While several excellent positions followed, this was her favorite job of all; she was editing the work of the nation's finest writers, and her sense of humor was injected into many of the articles she wrote. In the evenings, for several years, she was an instructor in writing at DeKalb College (Clarkston, GA) and Emory University (Atlanta). Her interest in health care and medicine blossomed when hired as a Medical Writer and Editor at Arthritis & Rheumatism Journal, and later as a Medical Writer and Editor at the American Cancer Society's National Office, where she supported education of health care professionals, including nursing publications. Ultimately, as a Medical Writer & Editor at the National Vaccine Program Office/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),she coordinated and wrote the first national plan for response to a pandemic threat in the United States. In a reorganization of CDC, she was moved to the National School Health Program Office. She retired in 2017 and spends much of her time reading "a wide range of books I didn't have time to read while working at my career."
