The book is part mystery, part irreverent social commentary, and fascinating Hawaiiana. The narrator is Grace Hill, an 84-year-old resident of the Palms. She and her Clue Crewthree sharp and funny ladieswith the help of two Hawaiian policemen solve the mysterious deaths of five elderly residents. The week in hell culminates when Grace discovers the naked body of a man at the bottom of the swimming pool. Among the murder suspects are the Palms head chef, his wife, the sous chef, a saleswoman, a swimming pool cleaner, and even Grace. As the author raises the lid on retirement home living, beware, there may be an unpleasant odor.

Janet G. Go was born on July 23, 1930 in Camden, New Jersey, United States to the family of Daniel J. Hilferty and Ethel M. George.
Janet Go studied at Hyattsville High School, Maryland graduating in 1946. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at University of Colorado at Boulder in 1953.
Janet Go's first article was published in the Washington, D.C. Star when she was eleven years old. After graduating from the University of Colorado, Boulder, she moved to Hawaii, Saipan, and Guam. She was a reporter, columnist, and feature writer for the Guam Daily News, the Pacific Journal, and the Pacific Daily News. She wrote the first tourist guide to Guam and Micronesia. She worked for the United States Navy and Air Force as a technical writer/editor. When she retired from the United States Civil Service in 1991, she moved to Fraser Valley, Colorado, where, between skiing and hiking, she wrote four books. Her travel articles have been published in magazines and Sunday newspaper travel sections.
