Career
Near the end of her reign, the Mission Universe organization offered to hand over operations of the Mission South Carolina United States of America pageant to McDonald and her family. In addition to the Mission South Carolina United States of America pageant, McDonald"s sister"s RPM Productions also handles the Mission North Carolina United States of America, Mission Louisiana United States of America, and Mission Alabama United States of America Pageants. McDonald went on to a career in broadcasting, working in Charleston and Savannah before landing a job at WTBS in Atlanta.
Nominated for 8 Emmys, she left Cable News Network in 2001 to start the Atlanta-based J-Mac Productions.

McDonald was a 20-year-old senior at the University of South Carolina, majoring in broadcast journalism, when she won the title of Mission South Carolina United States of America in 1979. During her year as Mission South Carolina United States of America she competed in the Mission United States of America Pageant in Biloxi, Mississippi, and traveled throughout the state for appearances. Their first winner, Shawn Weatherly, claimed the title of Mission United States of America as well as Mission Universe. They have produced a total of four Mission USAs, two Mission Teen USAs, one Mission Universe and a Mission World.
