Logie was born in Invercargill in 1969.

She graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor in politics and served as Women"s Coordinator for the New Zealand Union of Students" Associations from 1993 to 1996.
She lived and worked in Japan as an Assistant Language Teacher on the Joint European Torus Programme. She has previously worked for Women"s Refuge, the Hutt Valley Youth Health Service, the New Zealand Young Women’s Christian Association and the New Zealand Centre for Sustainable Cities. Logie openly described herself as a "lefty, feminist lesbian" in her maiden speech to Parliament.
Logie unsuccessfully contested the 2010 by-election in Mana, placing third with 1,543 votes.
Logie, along with the rest of the Green Party, voted in support of Marriage (Definition of Marriage) Amendment Acting 2013, allowing same-sex couples to legally marry in New Zealand. She was returned to Parliament after the 2014 general election.
In 2015, Logie created a cross-party group to look at and advocate for LGBTI rights. This group consists of Catherine Delahunty (Green), Chris Bishop (National), David Seymour (Acting), Denis O"Rouke (New Zealand First), Denise Roche (Green), James Shaw (Green), January Logie (Green), Kevin Hague (Green), Louisa Wall (Labour), Nanaia Mahuta (Labour), Paul Foster-Bell (National), and Trevor Mallard (Labour).
Logie also stood in Mana in the 2011 election, where she again came third, however as she ranked ninth on the Green Party list she was elected to Parliament, with the Greens gaining 14 seats.
She is a member of the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand.
