Janusz Onyszkiewicz, Ukrainian mathematician. Recipient Gold medal for Outstanding Sporting Achievements, Polish Government, other Polish and foreign decorations and awards.


ONYSZKIEWICZ, Janusz was born on December 18, 1937 in Lwow, Poland. Parents: Stanislaw Onyszkiewicz and Franciszka Onyszkiewicz (née Cencora).


Doctor of Mathematics, Warsaw University. Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics, Warsaw University, 1967. Master of Science in Mathematics, Warsaw University.

Doctor of Science (honorary), University Leeds, England.


Assistant later, Senior Assistant Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, Mathematics Institute, Warsaw University 1963-1967, lecturer 1967-1975, now Senior lecturer. Lecturer, University of Leeds 1976-1979. Lectured at many universities abroad.

Deputy Chairman Board at Warsaw University September-October 1980. Adviser to Interfactory Founding Committee of Solidarity Industry Self-governing Trade Union-Mazovia Region, subsequently. Executive Commission, Solidarity Trade Union.

Attached to Lech Walesa since 1988. Participant Round Table debates. Deputy to Sejm (Pari.) since 1989.

Deputy Minister of National Defence. Executive Committee of Interparl. Union since 1989; mountaineer and speleologist, participant mountaineering expeditions in Himalayas, Hindukush, Karakorum, Pamir.
