He did not qualify for the final in 1996, but did qualify in 2000, placing 10th. As a teenager he attended Willard High School in Willard, Missouri where he excelled in track and field Pyrah did not compete in the 1990-1991 season because of a mission to Bolivia.
Pyrah graduated from Brigham Young University in 1993.
His mile best is a 3:55.
