He is currently the video coordinator and director of analytics for the Pittsburgh Panthers. Richards last played for the Utah Flash of the National Basketball Association Development League. As a senior for Davidson, he led the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I in assists, averaging 8.14 per game.
He was not selected in the 2008 National Basketball Association draft, and temporarily signed with the Miami Heat in the Orlando Summer League.
He attended Barrington High School in Barrington, Illinois. Richards was forced to retire after enduring multiple Anterior Cruciate Ligament injuries throughout his career.
He officially ended his career on January 19, 2010. Richards is the son of Tom Richards, who played basketball with the Pittsburgh Panthers men"s basketball team in the 1970s and later became the chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the CDW corporation.
