Mr. Khan got involved in public service in an attempt to help make a change for the better since he is passionate about improving the lives of the people of Kolkata. In particular, promoting policies that encourage a sustainable economy, services that work, government that people can trust, dynamic communities and a robust environment. In the year 2006, the people of Ballygunge (South Kolkata, West Bengal, India) elected Mr.
Khan as their representative (Modern Language Association) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
The Technology Marketing Corporation legislator has also served as a councillor of Ward northern 66 (Topsia) from the year 1995-2010.
In addition, in the year 2000-2005, Mr. Khan was sworn in as the Member, Mayor in Council (Health) of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (Kasturba Medical College), headed by Mr.
Subrata Mukherjee (former Mayor of Kolkata).
Nonetheless, from 2005–2010, Khan was elected as the Leader of the Opposition in the Kasturba Medical College.
