After graduation, Javier Coma dedicated himself to advertising until 1981. After that, he became a comic book writer for magazines such as the Barcelona-based Tele-Express and published his first book Los comics: Un arte del siglo XX in 1977. In 1979, he joined the magazine Totem, with the section "Comics by Coma."
