Jay Brazeau

Background

Jay Brazeau was born on December 22, 1953, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Career

Jay Brazeau began his career playing small and supporting roles or voicing animated films characters. "Disneyland Series" (1986), "Pif et Hercule" (1989), "Sonic - Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog" (1993), "Sabrina, the Animated Series" (1999).

In 1975 he appeared in "The Melting Pot," in 1992 in an episode of "Street Justice" and two of the first season episodes of "Highlander: The Series." In October 2009, he appeared as "Manitoba in chair" in the National Arts Centre production of The Drowsy Chaperone in Ottawa. In 2009, he played a part in several scenes added for the "Ultimate Cut" version of Watchmen.

Brazeau frequently co-starred with Don Sinclair Davis.

His voice credits also include two Winnipeg-produced National Film Board of Canada animated shorts, "Get a Job" and "Louisiana Salla". He portrayed Edna Turnblad in the Arts Club Theatre Company"s production of "Hairspray" during the 2010/2011 season. Brazeau based his performance as Edna on his mother and an adult neighbor from his childhood nicknamed Fat Kay.

On May 12, 2011, Brazeau suffered a minor stroke while changing costumes backstage 30 minutes into a preview performance.

Brazeau missed 36 performances before making a full recovery and returning to the production. Now, he continues playing, producing, screenwriting, and voicing numerous films and TV series.

In 2013 he co-starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe in the paranormal thriller "Horns." Jay was cast in the series of movies "Garage Sale Mysteries."

Achievements

• Jay Brazeau was numerous times nominated to different awards including Vancouver Film Critics Circle for Best Supporting Actor in a Canadian film Fathers & Sons (2010), UBCP/ACTRA Awards as Best Actor in Down River (2013), Leo Awards for Best Performance by a Male in a short drama Exchange (2003) and Best Performance by a Male in a short drama Casanova at Fifty (2003), Canadian Comedy Awards for Best Performance by a Male in film Sex After Kids (2013), Gemini Awards for Best Performance by an Actor in a Guest Role in a dramatic series Stargate SG-1 (1997).
