Career
Jay Durias is the frontman of the South Border, a popular and Rhythm & Blues band that traces its roots from Davao City. He is a composer, singer, songwriter, and arranger. Jay’s band, Southborder, came into national prominence in 1996 when they launched their first self-titled album, which included a Jimmy Antiporda song entitled “May Pag-Ibig Pa Kaya.” They interpreted the song in the Metro Manila People’s Music Festival earlier that year.
Their song “Kahit Kailan” was awarded 1996 Song of the Year by various radio stations.
This gave them their first big hit. Included in their awards are the Best Performance by a New Duo or Group, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Produced Record of the Year for their hit song, “Kahit Kailan.” By the end of 1997, their debut album has gone triple platinum, and South Border was a certified star band.
However, in the midst of a flourishing career, South Border found itself in the eye of a storm, which called for a conspicuous change in their lineup. Luke Mejares replaced Brix Ferraris on lead vocals when he left the band.
They doubled their efforts and were able to produce better albums.
After a couple of years, the band experienced another change in their lineup when their vocalist, Luke Mejares, left the band. With their two new vocalists, Southborder produced the hits “Rainbow” and the Mulawin’s theme song “Ikaw Nga.” Edgier and danceable Rhythm & Blues hits like “The Show” and “Brown Hand Smash” also proved to be a gigantic commercial success for the band.
