Jean Bertholle was a French painter of the new Paris School.

Background

Jean Bertholle was born on June 26, 1909, in Dijon, France.

Education

Jean studied painting at the School of Art and Design in Saint-Etienne and Lyon. Then he continued his studies at the National High School of Fine Arts in Paris (1933-1934).

Career

The influence of cubists and surrealists in the works of the initial period of the artist's work was noticeable. Later he was mainly engaged in abstract art, sustained in dark color.

After 1958 he returned to a bright and harmonious range of colors. His work belongs to the flow of illusive abstractionism. The artist died in 1996.

Achievements

  • Jean Bertholle has had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the La Capitale Galerie. Many works by the artist have been sold at auction.
