Quotations:
"I love history and the research necessary for writing historical novels. Having been born in an old home in the same room and bed in which my father was born may have been an influence? It is likely in my genes."
"History was poorly taught when I was in school and, regrettably, I saw no improvement during my elementary library work and that fact has prodded me into making history real through a story. I’d like young people to know how courageous their ancestors were and to be aware of the forces that caused them to think and act as they did."
Ducey was a member of Historical Society of Michigan, Natural Resources Defense Council, Amnesty International and Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
Jean Ducey married John E. Ducey, a steel supplier, in 1937. The couple gave birth to two children — John Michael and Jay Patrick.
