Background

Jeane Pearce was especially known for her articles in the Japan Times on getting things done in Japan. At a time when information in English on Japan was hard to come by, articles such as hers were a real Godsend to the non-Japanese speaking foreign community. She a;sp wrote articles for The Wall Street Journal, South Bend Tribune.

Education

Pearce studied at Purdue University and worked in the U.S. State Department after graduation. Her husband was stationed on a submarine during World War II, while she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where she was employed by a radio station.[1] The family later moved to Turkey, and in 1958 to Japan, where she remained until 2000 when she moved back to the United States.

Connections

In 2000, she married William Sherman, who had been employed at the US Embassy in Tokyo between 1977 and 1981.

Pearce had two sons, Chris and Laer, with her first husband.
