Jeannie studied at the University of Michigan, graduating in 1982 with Bachelor of Science degree. In 1986 she attained Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Chicago.
Jeannie started her career as a teaching assistant in 1983 at the Pritzker School of Medicine, a post she held until 1986. Three years later, in 1989, Brewer began to work as an instructor at the School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (present-day Perelman School of Medicine).
In 1991 Brewer was appointed a General Internal Medicine instructor at the University of California, a position she held till 1992.
Since 1993 Jeannie served as an instructor at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.
Jeannie is a member of Physicians for a National Health Program organization and California Physicians Alliance.
Jeannie married Mark R. Lee on September 7, 1987. Two years later, in 1989, the couple divorced. On April 6, 1991 she married Jennings R. Lang. The couple has two children — Nicole and Erica.
