Director of Intelligence, Service de documentation exterieure et de contre-espionage (SDECE) 1971-1976. First; Commander 11th Parachute Division 1976-1979. Inspecteur de l'infantrie August 1979.

Lieutenant-General February 1980. Commander 1st military region and 3rd army corps, Commanding Officer, Paris September 1980. Army Chief of Staff January 1981-1985.
