Four years later at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South of Korea, he advanced to the B Final of the 400-meter individual medley and finished ninth overall. He held the national high school record in the 500-yard freestyle for 30 years (1983-2013), and held the Stanford record in the 1,650-yard freestyle for 21 years (1986–2007).
