Subsequently served as secretary of embassy or legation in various grades at Peking, Bogota, Istanbul and Ankara, Oslo and Berlin and as consul and assistant chief, Division of Protocol, Department of State. Charge d’affaires ad interim at various posts.
And from outbreak of World World War II in charge of Prisoner of War Section, American Embassy, Berlin, entrusted with protection of Belgian, British and French interests in Germany, September 1939 to April 1941. Deputy chief of mission Embassy, Lima, Peru, 1941-1945, Brussels, Belgium, 1945-1946, Cairo, Egypt, 1946-1949. Ambassador to Uruguay, 1956-1958.
