Jeffrey Paul Powers-Beck was born on February 27, 1964, in Marengo, Iowa, United States. He is the son of Arnold James and Jacqueline Rae (Guinn) Beck.
Jeffrey Powers-Beck received a Bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Iowa in 1986. Two years later he got a Master of Arts in engineering from Indiana University. Jeffrey also holds a Doctor of Philosophy in engineering.
Jeffrey was employed as an assistant professor at East Tennessee State University in August of 1993. In 1999 he was promoted to an associate professor and in 2004 to the professor. He served as assistant dean and associate dean in the School of Graduate Studies for nine years, and as interim dean during extended absences of the Dean of Graduate Studies. Beck was also a dean of the Nathan Weiss Graduate School in Union from 2013 to 2017. Currently, Jeffrey P. Beck is a director of the School of Humanities at Penn State Harrisburg.
As a literary historian, he is the author of four books including Writing the Flesh: The Herbert Family Dialogue and The American Indian Integration of Baseball, and many peer-reviewed articles, notes, magazine articles, and reviews.
Jeffrey Paul Powers-Beck has been listed as a noteworthy English language educator by Marquis Who's Who. He has obtained grants from the National Endowments for the Humanities to pursue his research, and he has served many times as a panelist and reviewer for the N.E.H. Jeffrey was also nominated for ETSU’s Faculty Research Award.
