Jeffrey Ivan Victoroff was born in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, United States.
Jeffrey Victoroff began his studies at St. John's College in Annapolis where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude in 1974. Then he went to the University of Chicago and obtained a Master of Arts degree in 1978. Then he received a Doctor of Medicine degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 1982. He also was educated at Harvard Medical School from 1985 till 1988.
Jeffrey Victoroff has been an associate professor of clinical neurology and psychiatry at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California since 2003. Before that, from 1998, he was an associate professor of clinical neurology at this university. From 1990 till 1998 he held the position of an assistant professor of neurology and, before that, from 1988 - the position of a clinical instructor in neurology.
Victoroff directs the Neuropsychiatry/Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Clinic at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, where he treats patients with behavioral complications of TBI. He is program director of the National Football League Neurologic Care Program and treats former football players for complications of concussion at the University of Southern California. His research interests include the behavioral complications of neurological disease, including aggression in epilepsy and TBI. He also has a private practice.
Earlier, he liked to read in his spare time, and having a vivid imagination, he decided to try writing a novel. The result was his first book, The Wild Type (1989). Conceived in the late 1980s, it is a story about genetic engineering gone awry.
Victoroff's second book, Saving Your Brain: The Revolutionary Plan to Boost Brain Power, Improve Memory, and Protect Yourself against Alzheimer's, is a product of his research into the effects of Aging-related Neurodegeneration of the Alzheimer's Type (ARNAT), the results of which he has also reported in various professional journals. Statistics indicate that ailments associated with aging-related brain degeneration are now the fourth most common cause of death in North America, and the rate is rising. In Saving Your Brain, Victoroff explains that most elderly people develop preconditions for the onset of ARNAT as part of the aging process and addresses why some people develop Alzheimer's and related diseases while others do not. A number of variables, including genetics, the environment, and diet, play a part in this phenomenon, and Victoroff offers some practical advice on how the average person can help keep his or her brain healthy by making some simple lifestyle changes.
In the most recent book, Concussion and Traumatic Encephalopathy: Causes, Diagnosis and Management (2019), multiple experts collaborated to summarize the latest scientific evidence in an engaging way and provide the reader with the first paradigm-shifting textbook of this new era.
Victoroff also contributed to various journals, including Neurology, Archives of Neurology, and American Journal of Psychiatry and edited Psychology of Terrorism: Classic and Contemporary Insights (2009).
Jeffrey Victoroff is a reviewer and consultant for numerous journals, including the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, International Journal of Law and Psychiatry, Journal of Terrorism and Political Violence, Journal of Peace Research, and many others.
