The Tabla Legacy of Taranath Rao (second edition) is a comprehensive overview of the art of tabla, adapted from a manuscript by Taranath Rao, the longtime teacher and performer in India and at the California Institute of the Arts. After a series of beginners´ exercises come over one hundred compositions in the Farukkhabad, Ajrada, Delhi and Benaras styles in numerous rhythmic cycles. The text is generously illustrated with photographs and with Pt. Taranath's own drawings. The book is indexed not only by subject, but also by the compositions according to their initial bols; (drum stroke names). This second edition features expanded presentations of many of the qaida and rela themes from the first edition, as well as free online videos and a DVD of audio mp3 recordings of all the major lessons by Sadanand Naimpalli, one of Pt. Taranath´s principal disciples.
