She attended Horace Mann School in Riverdale, New York City, where she graduated in French and English. In 1991, she graduated from Columbia College, Columbia University, with a bachelor"s in art history.
Career
Her medical degree is from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in 2000. Ashton practices as a board-certified Obstetrician & Gynecologist at Hygeia Gynecology, Limited Liability Company, a private medical practice she founded in New Jersey. She served her residency at Saint Luke"s–Roosevelt Hospital Center in New New York
She has also been an attending physician at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, an affiliate of Mount Sinai Medical Center, in Englewood, New Jersey.
Ashton is the author of two books, many articles in a variety of magazines, and contributed to a health blog for The Record, of Bergen, New Jersey. Her first book, The Body Scoop for Girls, published in 2009, about puberty, is for teenage girls.
Her second book, Your Body Beautiful, published in 2012, is book about health and wellness for women in their middle life. Ashton began her television career in 2006 as the first female medical contributor on the national Fox News Channel.
In April 2009, Ashton started as Columbia Broadcasting System News medical correspondent.
She contributed to all Columbia Broadcasting System media platforms including regular appearances on The Columbia Broadcasting System Evening News with Katie Couric, The Early Show, and is a featured expert commentator on WCBS Radio and its national affiliates. In January 2012, Ashton began as co-host of American Broadcasting Company"s short lived The Revolution which was canceled in April 2012 due to poor viewership. In October 2012 she began working as senior medical contributor to the American Broadcasting Company News Medical Unit with regular appearances on the morning news show Good Morning America.
In October 2013, she also joined the staff on the daytime medical talk show The Doctors.
Starting December 2013, Doctor Ashton returned to school in pursuit of a Master"s degree in nutrition from Columbia University.
